1 Wednesday. (214-152)
Lammas Day (Scottish Quarter Day)
Full Moon. 4.31
p.m.
We went by tram to Warwick Castle. The walk up to the castle was
very inviting. The castle and grounds were well-kept. A guide took us around. We
saw the Armory Hall, Red Drawing Room, Green Drawing Room, Cedar Room and
Queen Anne's State Room.
The rooms were very interesting. The Boule work was
especially good. Each painting was lighted with an electric bulb. This was quite
unique. We saw some good paintings by Rubens Raphael and VanDyk. Then we saw
Guy's Porridge Pot. The view from the Blue Room was remarkable. We saw the fork
of the Avon and a view of the old mill below and fields all round. Also saw the
Warwick Vase. Then we saw St Mary's church and the Lord Leicester's Hospital
Chapel. In the afternoon we went in a charabanc to Stratford-on-Avon and it
rained. Had tea at River Café. Saw Shakespeare's birthplace, returned via
Warwick at 6:30 PM. Went to see "It Pays to Advertise"
